A-Level Chemistry
Course Summary
An A level in Chemistry provides you with a range of transferable skills and develops your ability to apply your knowledge to new problems. The course is challenging and aims to give students the opportunity to develop their understanding of Chemistry concepts.
The aims of A level Chemistry are to :
- Develop students independent study skills.
- To familiarise students with experimental techniques.
- To provide students who wish to continue studying Science with a firm foundation of Chemistry concepts.

Course Outline
The Chemistry course is divided into three sections, with each encompassing the relevant practical skills.
Component 1: Physical Chemistry
Bonding, Thermodynamics, Kinetics and Equilibria.
Component 2: Inorganic Chemistry
Periodicity, Electrochemistry and Study of the Transition Metals.
Component 3: Organic Chemistry
Studying the reactions of various homologous series, Organic synthesis and Chemical analysis
The Chemistry course has a large practical element with a minimum of twelve required practical tasks throughout the two year course.

Subject Entry Requirements
In addition to the general Sixth Form Entry requirements students will need the following:
GCSE English Literature or Language: Grade 5 or above
GCSE Mathematics: Grade 6 or above
GCSE Science : Grade 6/6 in Combined Science GCSE or 6 in GCSE Chemistry, a 6 in a second Science and a 5 or above in a third Science.
