Course Summary

A Level Geography aims to encourage learners to develop a range of essential skills for Higher Education and the world of work through content which is relevant to any citizen of the planet in the 21st century. Through exciting topics learners will understand the nature of physical and human geography whilst unpicking the debates surrounding contemporary challenges facing the world today.

(2 hours and 30 minutes,108 marks, 36% of total A level)

Investigative geography

(60 marks, 20% of total A level)

You will complete an independent fieldwork investigation, which must include the collection of primary data. The focus of the investigation must be a research question or issue independently defined and developed by you; it can relate to any part of the specification content, including options not taught as part of the course. The suggested length of the completed investigation is 3,000 to 4,000 words.

You are also required to complete 4 days of fieldwork during the A Level Geography course; this will take place in the Spring term of Year 12, on a residential field trip to Dorset, where a mix of Physical and Human Geography, and Geographical Skills will be studied.

Subject Entry Requirements

In addition to the general Sixth Form Entry requirements students will need the following:
GCSE English Literature or Language: Grade 5 or above
GCSE Mathematics: Grade 5 or above
GCSE Geography: Grade 5 or above

If students have a 5 in GCSE Maths they will need to study Core Maths in Year 12 as an If students have a 5 in GCSE Maths they will be required study Core Maths in Year 12 as an Enrichment Option. Students who have a 6 or above in GCSE Maths will be allowed to choose an Enrichment Option of their choice.
