Course Summary
RSL Acting is an exciting and engaging course if you enjoy performing, devising performances and have a passion for Theatre. RSL Acting is a popular subject at Arthur Terry and you will need to be able to perform with confidence, be prepared to work as a team and be committed to rehearsals. This course is worth 1.5 A-Levels and is an amazing opportunity to develop your crucial skills for a future in a wide variety of careers.

Exam Board: RSL
Core unit – Performance preparation (30 credits)– Externally assessed – Effective planning, rehearsing and collaborating with others for a successful performance.
Core Unit – Planning a career in performing arts (15 credits) – internally assessed – Ability to manage a career through careful planning.
Internally assessed units:
Approaches to Acting (10 credits) – Acting workshops to develop skills introduced by leading practitioners.
Audition techniques for acting (10 credits) – Understanding the fundamental part of working as a performer, developing audition techniques.
Elizabethan and Jacobean Theatre (10 credits) – Drama history from 1580 – 1625. Learning Shakespeare and how he dominated the theatre history.
Contemporary Theatre (10 credits) – Understanding how contemporary theatre works. From West End to Touring companies.
Drama in the community (10 credits) – Ability to understand development of non-professional theatre in the community.
Subject Entry Requirements
In addition to the general Sixth Form Entry requirements students will need the following:
GCSE English Literature or Language: Grade 4 or above
GCSE Mathematics: Grade 4 or above
Students will need a Level 2 qualification in Drama (e.g. GCSE grade 4 and above | RSL Merit and above | BTEC Merit and above).
If you do not have a formal qualification in Drama, but have had acting training or performance experience (e.g. LAMDA, attending external Theatre/Drama clubs) then you can still be eligible for the course.
